Bike trail test and XTerra race preparation – Hawaii 2018

Tempo di lettura: 2 minuti

Now it’s time to enter deeper into the XTerra World Championship!

I met two italian guys and we went to the XTerra headquarter at the Ritz Carlton resort to bring our bib number.

Later we went on the tracks to test the bike course; unfortunately it has rained a lot in the past days and the single trail into the forest is horrendously muddy; even when you try to ride sideways to avoid the mud your wheels catch up all the leaves and  the cutted branches and make a horrible moisture that makes impossible to keep on riding.

The bike shop assistant told me to use “PAM” on the frame, a special cooking spray, but it didn’t work very well.

After 13 km of struggling into the mud I gave up the fight, trying to keep the right mental attitude and energies for the race on Sunday. I will concentrate myself on swimming into the waves of the ocean.

The start of the competition is in the DT Fleming Beach, near the Ritz Carlton; to be honest it  is not a “five star” beaches as we know in Italy, but it is wide, natural and clean. The waves are always pushing well, even if they are just one meter high; also the currents into the bay are very strong and when you swim  just 100 meter from the shore, you couldn’t see the beach anymore and you feel a bit “castaway”!

During the briefing they told us that even with waves of 20-30 feets the race will start normally….. I hope I haven’t well understood!!
